Indicators

Leicester’s uses both National and Local Indicators.

National Indicators are those that make up Leicesters Local Area Agreement (LAA).  These have been selected locally and agreed centrally as those indicators by which Leicester's performance will be measured.  These indicators have been supplied through the Department of Communities and Local Governments Basket of Indicators (196 in total).

Local/Supporting Indicators are those that lie outside of the LAA.  These can be indicators that are contained within the Department of Communities and Local Governments Basket of Indicators, those that have been used previously or ones that have been specifically tailored to suit the performance needs of the Council.  In some cases Local Indicators are used to support those contained in the Local Area Agreement.  There is a requirement to report performance against Local Indicators.

Proxy Indicators are those indicators which are used as a substitute to other indicators where it may not be possible to gather data/information.  A Proxy Indicator provides an alternative means of measurement by providing a benchmark that uses related data/information.

There are also a number of other indicators that Leicester measures its performance against.  This is where there is a statutory requirement to do so.
